2020 SCELCapalooza is a full week of SCELC events and fun, including:
Colloquium was inaugurated in 2006 to provide a dedicated forum to discuss current issues in the field of electronic resource licensing, digital librarianship, the role of social networks in libraries, and more. Reserved for librarians and staff of SCELC Member & Affiliate institutions, the Colloquium presents lightning talks and panels of speakers recognized for their expertise on a particular topic. All SCELC librarians are encouraged to attend the Colloquium, which is free of charge and includes breakfast and lunch.
Vendors vs. Librarians Bowling Tournament
The SCELC Vendors vs. Librarians Bowling Tournament began early in the 21st century. Vague recollections from the participants are unable to pinpoint the exact year in which it began, and we suspect we are now the world’s longest-running vendor vs. librarian sporting event… at least in our neighborhood, if not the greater universe. In 2016, librarians won the tournament for the first time ever!
It’s the main event! Every year SCELC Vendor Day draws over 200 librarians representing more than 90 libraries from California and beyond. It is always free for all librarians to attend, including our peers at academic, community college, and public libraries outside of SCELC. Vendors also lead their own sessions in concurrence with exhibits, which are valuable learning opportunities for librarians.
Vendor participation is by invite only. If you would like to be considered as an exhibitor, contact email@example.com.
SCELCapalooza draws to a close every year by hosting meetings for all of our Advisory Committees. As staff from Member institutions far and wide tend to come to down for Vendor Day the day before, SCELC takes the opportunity to get our committee members together for in-person meetings in the LMU Library. (This day’s events are not ticketed, as committee meetings are not open to the general public.)
